A little bit about our hobby ranch:
We have 21 pets and I do call them Longhorns when I explain them to people. But I also clear it that we don't eat them. Each one has a name and their very own personality's. They have 50 acres to roam . They do come home everyday for water during the warmer seasons. The winter we keep them close to home. We have 2 steers Jounior and Trophy, the bull Peacemaker and 6 mom's and their 6 kids from 2 years ago . Then comes the 6 babies from this year.
We will be selling the boys this summer but the girls get to stay. For some reason the little guys think they can go under the fence and go anywhere they want. Had to put 2 back in twice yesterday. They think it's a game we are playing with them. I laughed but Maurice didn't even chuckle.
I feed them carrots and any fruit and all of them eat from my hand.
As I said this is a hobby ranch but as cold as it's been I wonder if we are in the rite hobby sometimes. All said and done if any of the older ones get out they wait by the gate to go back in. They are good kids most of the time. When they look at you with their big brown eyes it's hard to stay mad. When one of the little ones are out the mom will beller until i come down there. If we need them to come up to the barn all I do is yell for Sarah and they all come. They all want a treat so it's easy to round them up. Don't need any horses for the round up.
When they calf they head into the woods. We know right away when the mom isn't home for water that day. For about 3 days she comes home to drink and heads back up to the woods. By the 4th day she will come walking with the baby.
Our next project is to get a goat. Never had one so this will be interesting to see how the cows react with it. If there is any input on this subject I would like to hear about it. (Thanks)
So alittle bit about our ranch and more pictures will be posted I hope. If you enjoy a beautiful animal the Longhorn is very special. I spend about 1 hour aday bonding with them so they are very spoiled. I do know which side of the fence to be on. I have 2 cats that chore with me so the petting is with the cats. Ok maybe 3 of the cows too.
It's just like in a movie to look over the valley and see the cows grazing and with their horns makes you think of Rawhide. So we have to have a better summer for hay . We have 6 mom's expecting and maybe the 2yr olds so we will just have to wait I guess.
( Keep those doggies moving, Rawhide.)
