the GNTLA

Welcome to the home page for the Great Northern Texas longhorn Association (GNTLA). The GNTLA is an organization with members mainly from Wisconsin and a few members from surrounding states, with the purpose to enjoy, promote, and educate people on the great Texas Longhorn breed of cattle.

As an organization we are a non affiliated association, we support both the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America and the International Texas Longhorn Association.

If you are looking for cattle, we have members with top quality registered stock and commercial cattle available. Whether you’re looking for cattle that will grow 70” horns or that flashy colored cow we can help you find them. If you’re a commercial beef producer, we can help you find that bull to use on your valuable first calf heifers. As an association we will network with our member to try to help in what ever way we can.

If you’re a health conscious consumer we have members throughout the state that offer lean and healthy beef for sale by the quarter, half, and whole. A few members also offer individual cuts and ground beef for sale by the pound. Contact us for a meat producers list with addresses and phone numbers.

Cherry Blossom Sale 2012

The sale was on Saturday April 21st at the Culpeper Agriculture Enterprise in Culpeper, VA. Ben and Ann Gravett of G&G Longhorns hosted the party at their home on Friday the 20th. G&G Longhorns have been long time members of the GNTLA. They have a beautiful home and have opened it up to anyone attending the Cherry Blossom Sale for many years. The party on the Friday before the sale is really the highlight of the weekend. This year there were over 300 breeders at the sale on Saturday and a lot of them were able to attend the party on Friday night. This is the place were you get to meet new people, enjoy good conversation, and just relax. There was a lot of talk about Longhorns too. It is always interesting learning how other people do things, what their breeding program looks like, and their take on industry issues. Saturday is sale day, hosted by the TLMA. You get to look at all the animals for sale, decide which ones you might like to see in your herd, then bid on them. This years sale had 118 cattle and took 5 hours to auction off all of them. The top selling cow was WH Midori, a 73" TTT, 8 year old, with a bull calf by her side. The sale was good but most people are all business. They are there to sell their cattle, so if you go make sure to have your business cards ready because they will be flying out of your hand. Next year, if you are having a hard time deciding what sales to go to, this sale is definitely one you should come to. If possible, make plans to come to the Friday night party hosted by Ben and Ann too.
